Nicole Hicks Globalization and International Affairs Cheap Food (Link) National Geographic  For the past decade, the world has been eating more than it has been producing (agriculturally)  In 2007, the global carryover stocks fall to 61 days of global consumption (2nd lowest ever)  Agricultural production is increasing each year, but only by a very small amount. Population increases faster  We need to double current food production by 2030  Way back when, 12,000 years ago, population always corresponded with food production (more people when we got cows, more people when we figured out irrigation, etc) -- if production hit a plateau, so did population  British mathematician, Thomas Malthus ("Malthusian curse"), when everyone else was super optimistic after the enlightenment, he said that human population increases geometrically, doubling every 25 years. HOWEVER, agricultural production increased MUCH more slowly. So, eventually, we're all going to die. He wrote that
