Islam is less and less ascribed to a specific territory and civilizational area. Visible in the integration of eastern and western europe. Also a result of globalization and has nothing to do with islam. More and more muslims are living in non muslim areas; a third of muslims now live as a minority. Muslims in recently settled minorities have to reinvent what makes them muslim; build their own culture. A muslim might experience this deterritorialization without leaving their own country. Islam has become a minority in muslim worlds also. No longer has a muslim community (ummah)- doesn"t deal with territory. Barrier between west and islam doesn"t exist anymore. Islamic radicals express a negative form of westernization. Helps develop multiculturalism, minority groups, clash of civilizations, communitarization. Do not correspond with any specific territory or area. Muslims develop their own way of handling non islamic events.
