MISM 2301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Data Integrity, Data Element, Online Analytical Processing
Document Summary
Basic use of transaction data is to compute revenue, expenses, and profit. Managers use data to streamline operations, control quality of operations, and to experiment and innovate within the business for competitive advantage. Business executives employ data to measure performance, compare options, realign processes, and make decisions. A database does not have to be computerized. Most basic means for organizing transaction data manually is by use of ledgers. An automated database management system (dbms) organizes data into tables and record where each table represents a family of related data elements built around a common theme (i. e. customer, product, order) Dbms captures and stores diverse bodies of data and allows us to manage and combine many different tables automatically to as data elements/fields. Attributes of a customer are name, street address, phone number, etc and they are referred. A database is comprised of tables where each table represents a unique entity.
