Ex: medium of television (still the media", but only one form). We want to think of media as the entire range of different forms in which to communicate information. Humans and consumption: americans are quick to embrace technology and technological changes. (we as humans are pretty predictable!) We often don"t step back to think about the impact of what this technology might be. Mediation def: (noun) intervention in a process or relationship. The impact of media and how people interact with it. Basically some of those activities are not as engaging for us and not attended for us as well as we"d be able to do if we were engaging with each individually. How we understand media functioning as social and cultural institutions. How different cultures choose to consume media in different ways. Narrative style, complexity of the narrative, money dropped on the production: game of thrones vs. kardashians, well-produced, more significant cultural object vs trashy, popular oriented.
