Cognitive development in early adulthood. Piaget: around the age of 15, we would have reached formal operational stage. You not only think abstractly but also are thinking relatively. You realize that adult life comes with many challenges where there is often to right or wrong answer. Creativity: thinking about situations in a novel way, integrating across different disciplines peaks in early adulthood. Only about 40% of those who start graduate from college in 4 years. Many enroll, but not many finish. 70% of african- americans will drop out of college. Minority students are presently an increasing proportion of college students. African- americans have increased by 13% , hispanics by 22% and whites by 6% Knowledge economy: you need a college degree to prove that you have competence to perform in a particular field. There are more women than men enrolled in college at this time. The gender gap is even more evident with minority students.
