PSYC 3450 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Donald O. Hebb, Pontine Nuclei, Long-Term Potentiation
Document Summary
In many cases of classical conditioning, the conditioned response to the cs is identical to the unconditioned response to the ucs. In eyeblink conditioning, the response to the tone is the same as the response to the airpuff; blinking. In other cases, though, the cr may look quite different from the ucr. In fear conditioning, the unconditioned response is pain and jumping. The conditioned response is freezing: shows that pavlovs model incorrect. In this case pavlov"s theory holds if we remember that it is the state, not the behavior being conditioned. In other cases, however, the cr and ucr may be different even when the available responses are the same. Secrete natural opioids: can be conditioned, nervous system, ex. When people jump out of plane skydiving, get this arousal, then are weirdly calm when they land: ex 2: avoiding car crash, in the moment very calm, 30 seconds later freak out.
