The reinforcer is applied to one member of a response class of behavior and withdrawn. Dro, dra, dri, drl, drc, drh, dnra from other members of response class. Extinguish prob behavior and reinforce desired behavior. Ex: hands on knees rather than in other children"s personal bubbles. If the target response occurs, interval is started again. Ex: provide token at end of interval during which no thumbsucking occurred problems/drawbacks. Dro guidelines: use whole-interval dro initially, use momentary interval to maintain low rate, recognize limitations of dro. Advantage: does not require constant monitoring during interval. Occurrences of behavior may not result in extinction (momentary: set interval to assure frequent reinforcement, do not reinforce undesirable behaviors, gradually increase dro interval, extend to other settings, combine with other procedures. Use when lower rate of the behavior is tolerable and does not need to be changed quickly. Reinforcement is delivered when the rate of the behavior is lower than the criterion.
