Idea of (cid:498)intensive mothering(cid:499), mother is in charge of the child(cid:495)s well being. Put the child first, ahead of themselves and the center of the family. Soccer mom: suburbs, takes children from activity to activity. Tiger mom: asian stereotype, raising (cid:498)genius(cid:499) children. Attachment parents: children need attachment and nurtured from parents, rules such as breastfeeding, co sleeping, baby wearing, skin to skin contact, staying at home (the best person to do all this is the parent) Much more of a class difference rather than a race difference. Concerted cultivation: middle and upper class families (b&w) Active, hands on pursuit of success for the child. Promoting certain skills, talents and accomplishments, structure and organized activities. Intervene on their children(cid:495)s behalf, and train to participate and advocate for themselves. Children more likely to question adults and authority and develop to advocate, stronger language use. Language use: give directives but allow for reasoning (answering questions with questions)
