Mixed kids should acknowledge their blackness and be raised to survive what inevitably will accompany it: the one drop rule was generally supported by the law; the courts have not invalidated it. This is not to say that some communities have not challenged it; native. Americans and hispanics w black ancestry choose which race to identity with: the rule has costs, like conflicts in black families and communities over differences in hair, color, and other physical features. Many parents of mixed worry about suppression of their white ancestry. In other parts of the world, ppl of mixed ancestry are perceived simply as mixed, not black; the status positions of mixed race persons vary from society to society. The in-between status: the one drop rule assigns mixed kid the same status of the lower status parent group, a second rule gives the kid a status between that of the parent groups.
