Feminist work in third world characterized by (1) assumptions of privilege and ethnocentric universality and (2) inadequate self-consciousness about effects of western scholarship on 3rd world in context of world dominated by west. Production of third world difference by western feminists appropriates and essentially colonizes the fundamental complexities and conflict that characterize lives of women in different classes, religions, cultures, races, castes in third world. Power is exercised in recent western feminist discourse through this process of homogenization of oppression and experience. Contemporary imperialism is actually hegemonic imperialism bc it not only employs rationalized violence, but also tries and controls the minds and morals of the conquered.
