PHIL 220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Deskilling
Document Summary
Lots of stuff marx gets about politics come from hegel - there is a tri sphere structure - state, civil society, family: alienation in economic life: What makes us human is to have certain powers. Ideally, the things we do in our daily life, the activities we engage in, would be in the service of realizing our species-being, of using our powers so we can flourish. But, the problem is, that it is often the complete reverse. People are often forced to contort their powers into something else. Forced to produce things and do things that are purely in the pursuit of somebody else"s wealth Literally in a way that is inverse to your own wealth/power. When the laborer produces more product, the profit of the ruler goes up, and he becomes more invaluable and disposable. The cause of alienation is social - it has something to do with the way society is organized.
