Somaic symptoms: physical problems with psychological causes or contribuions; medically unexplained and subjecive. Primary issue is a fear of physical ailments (present or future) marked by catastrophic thinking, interocepive confusion and persistence in the face of medical feedback. Cogniive distorions: bias for illness/conirmaion bias, skewed understanding of probability, perceptual distorions of bodily states. Culture speciic: koro (shrinking genitals), dhat (semen loss), and the like. Hypochondriasis involves health anxiety and somaic symptoms, but illness anxiety. Disorder (iad), a speciier, has no somaic symptoms and accounts for 25% of cases.
