Occurs when behavior is influenced by the observation of others- we do this all the time. It is natural to model behavior on others (standing in the elevator, applause) Often cited as link between aggressive media (video games/ tv and aggression) Vicarious reinforcement and punishment- higher impact on learning when the other receives strong positive or negative consequences. High impact when the other evokes strong emotions (parents), and/or is liked or admired (powerful high status others, attractive celebrities) Most of what we think of as learning is more like memory, or problem solving. The persistence of learning over time; capacity to acquire and obtain usable skills and knowledge via the storage and retrieval of information. Stored: maintain an encoded information over time. Differences in stages are illustrated by amnesics: Anterograde have problems of encoding and storage. Highly emotional events, vivid or unusual events, Can also happen effortfully, can train attention to try to remember something.
