Anna comes in and sees that aleksey wants to talk to her as he has stayed up late, but sh. Lying can be false listening; theme of honesty. You only hear one word, miss the intention, focus on advantageous things. Page 168: "i am your husband and i love you" Anna is repulsed, but he has spoken sincerely and this gets to her.
