Makes sure she can"t have any more babies. Vronsky is interested in the latest charitable things (hospitals) Russian peasants really don"t need all the flashy, high tech things. Vronsky doesn"t want to make a school, schools are "so common" Doesn"t want to put in a maternity ward because it is not progressive, doesn"t go along with the view of a hospital. Fatalism is a way to avoid moral responsibility. Just like stiva at the beginning of the book, "bound to happen" Vronsky doesn"t know anything about how anna is thinking. Page 722: anna tells dolly that she is using birth control, vronsky doesn"t know this. You could have good reasons for a bad result and vice versa.
