Culture of poverty theory states that people will continue to feel poor, where. Authority is the legitimate (justifiable) right to exercise power they don"t believe in hard work and live in the situation that they are in. Power being defined as the capacity to carry out one"s will despite resistance. Legitimate being defined in the eyes of the society and not necessary in your eyes. Functionalist explanations (hobbes: authority is functional and necessary for society, internalization of norms and rules through socialization. Social influence: there are powerful forces within people to conform to rules and even the unstated expectations of situations, social inclination to be conformist: e. g. asch experiment. Max weber was the great theorist of authority. He saw authority as falling into three ideal types (conceptual and theoretical): Focus on capitalism [rise of capitalism has to do with the rise of a certain type of authority that did not exist previously]
