ATTR 1200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Ground Substance, Glucose, Prolotherapy
Document Summary
Essential for athletic trainer to recognize phases to be able to identify them: understand the phases, time frames physiological changes associated with each phase. Healing is continuum not just one phase. Inflammation response phase: fibroblastic repair phase, maturation remodeling phase. Dolor (pain: whenever tissue is damaged, ripped nerves, chemicals released from damage for awareness. Functio laesa (loss of function: result of the rest =loss of function. As they move from the impair to repair phase these signs go away, only some swelling and pain go into the repair phase. Inflammatory response phase: trying to contain the damage. (external wound should stay moist) Fibroblastic repair phase: scar tissue building. Maturation and remodeling phase: longest, the body tries to restore natural function, cleaning up scar tissue making stronger. Initial reaction by leukocytes (increase cell permeability, affect passage of fluid) and phagocytic cells. Cellular injury results in altered metabolism and the liberation of chemical mediators. Trying to control swelling: decrease injurious agents.
