Document Summary

Alpha helix and beta pleated sheets: tertiary structure: the secondary structure folds to give a more three dimensional shape c. i. The shape is maintained by hydrogen bonds and the stronger disulphide bridges which form between the sulfur containing amino acid molecules: quaternary structure: the protein contains of more than one polypeptide d. i. The different polypeptide chains bind together to form a whole new molecule. Enzymes: enzymes are known as biological catalysts, speed up chemical reactions that take place in cells, properties, they are made of proteins, many enzymes end with the suffix -ase . Substrate: the substrate that the enzyme works on, product: the substance that is made by the reaction. Catalase: found in animal and plant cells, needed to speed up the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide, breaks it down to oxygen and water, hydrogen peroxide --catalase oxygen and water.
