Document Summary

With transition metals, you have to indicate the oxidation number by adding the roman numeral of the oxidation number. Physical change: a change in appearance that does not result in the formation of a new substance. Chemical change: a reaction where the products have a different identity than the reactants. Chemical equations show what takes place during a chemical reaction: the reactants are on the left and the products are on the right. Exothermic reactions: reactions that release energy: the reactants have more potential energy than the products, the energy is on the products side of the equation, and delta h is negative. The number of each element on each side of the reaction must be the same due to the law of conservation of mass. Law of conservation of mass: matter can neither be created or destroyed in chemical reactions. To balance chemical equations, you change the coefficients so the same number of each element is on each side.
