Document Summary

Lewis dot structurethe lewis dot structure is used to display the number of valence electrons an atom has. This is useful in order to depict atoms when we want to draw diagrams of chemicals. Find the element you want to make the diagram for on the periodic table: look at the electron configuration. That"s the number of valence electrons in the atom. And that"s also the number of dots we draw around the symbol of the element: and that"s how you do it for any other element. Average atomic masses are determined through weighting of the abundance of the element"s isotopes. For example, if 20% of an element weighs 20, while 80% weighs. 21, then we have to factor in the element"s abundance. We can do this through the following method:1. Multiply the isotope"s mass by the abundance of the isotope2. We"ll we"re back, and we brought the tile along with us.
