Mendelian genetics, recessive/dominant, we knew about genetics before dna because of observations- pea plants. True breeding: self pollination and you get the same color plant every time. Lamarckism believed that animals changed during their lifetimes in order to become more advantageous. Giraffes grew their necks during their lives in order to eat higher leaves. Superfecundity: ability of a population to grow in size exponentially. Artificial selection happens faster than natural selection because the organism does not have to worry about counteracting forces. Filoviridae, ebola river, high risk of death 1976 5 variants of ebola virus: reston, zaire, Sudan, tai forest, bundibugyo, varying cfr (case fatality rate), zaire being the most lethal (79% cfr), bundibugyo least lethal ( 38%), and reston has a lack of pathogenicity in humans. We don"t really know why there are different strains of ebola, scientists have thought that the glycoprotein (gp) gene has been linked to cytotoxicity and virulence.
