White corking class and white rural politics (lecture) Two others relevant for today"s topic are: geography, education (college educated whites and non- college educated whites) Rising earnings disparity between young adults with and without a college degree. High school educated people earn less than same group (although individuals who make up that group have changed) 50 years ago: gap 1965: ,500, gap 2013: ,500. Non-college educated are not just stagnating but falling behind while the only gains are made in college educated group. In addition, rural life is fading away in america: fewer people live in rural areas than they did 50 years ago, fewer rural places (by country) Urban america was much smaller in 1970, with fewer metropolitan areas and smaller suburbs: fewer rural people. Huge fluctuations in population in rural areas, in last decade have lost population in rural areas.
