Broad definition an economic approach to voting ; any attempt at using cost benefit analysis; Working definition pertaining to political scientists the economy actually means the economy; macro (voting by individuals. Study of how the state of economy effects election results) and micro (attitudes about the economy) levels. Clearest case would be president running for election. Next case is the party of the current president. Trying to explain on macro level how well the incumbent did and in micro level did ppl chose to vote for the incumbent or not. Theory changes in economy are linked to a certain type of party. For ppl who are doing well under new changes, the best party they can support is to keep the new regimes in place because they are the ones who brought about these changes. Old regimes do worse when economy is good.
