We are born free, as we are both rational . Men in a state of nature are absolutely free and independent and become members of society only by their consent. Civil government is thus the result of a social contract among individuals, who agree to arrogate an unlimited natural right in the interest of mutual preservation and protection of life, liberty and property, Anyone capable of developing powers of rational self-guidance has the right to consent to the governed in other words, they cannot be governed without their consent.
