Medal was made to commemorate the basilica. Four towers in the corner were to be eliminated. Floor plan shown for the basilica as well. No door entrance on the floor plan. Updated many times as new artists/architects took over the project. Would be one of the largest buildings created during that time. Needed to reinvent the idea of using concrete over putting stone on stone. One year after julius caesar died, bramante died. Dome was finished after michelangelo had died. Competition among high renaissance artists is extreme. Three main artists of the high renaissance: Dies right before the high renaissance ends. Trained in florence, but worked in milan. Called to milan to work as a military engineer. Opens up human bodies to do dissections to study human anatomy. His master was so impressed that he quit painting and did sculpting instead. Leonardo did the angel on the far left. Is in terrible shape; has been since it was created.
