Document Summary

Appendicular skeleton osteology of the upper and lower extremities. The appendicular skeleton consists of the bones of the upper and lower extremities (limbs). The appendicular skeleton also consists of the bones comprising the shoulder joint (scapula and clavicle) and hip joint (os coxa) which attach the limbs to the axial skeleton. Bones of the upper limb clavicle, scapula, humerus, radius, ulna, carpals, metacarpals. Medially, the clavicle articulates with the manubrium of the sternum. This is called the sternal end of the clavicle. laterally, the clavicle articulates with the acromion of the scapula. This is called the acromial end of the clavicle. Fractures or dislocations of the clavicle can lead to the separation of the acromioclavicular joint (ac joint) resulting in a step deformity . Step deformities can lead to shoulder joint destabilization and complications with the rotator cuff. The superior border of the scapula is located across the upper margin of the scapula.
