Two levels of summary: the big picture and the more details (just a few details of an article) When speaking about the big picture, citation isn"t necessary. Introduce quote/signal phrase [quoted material] respond, connect or give context. Parenthetical citations depend on the medium (print, web dvd etc) If it is common knowledge then it doesn"t have to be cited. Signal word in the text is the first thing on the works cited page. If you do not have an author than use the first few words in the text to cite. If you are citing an online source then cite the paragraph number instead of the page number. If you are citing a quote, make sure to indent then the response is not indented. If you add something make sure to use brackets [ ]. If you are deleting something use the ellipse ( )
