Starting at 0 years, 100% of parent left. A parent with a 5 year half-life has a steeper curve (deteriorates faster) than a parent with, say, a 30 year half-life. On the exam, he"ll show us a graph with many half-life curves on it and ask something like, To gure out the age of something, you need to be able to measure the amount of both the parent and daughter. Some minerals are better than others for older vs younger ages. These rocks all have at least 8 minerals in them. You would age all of them and they should give you the same answer. We use the age of these minerals/rocks to gure out how old islands in a chain (like hawaii) are, which then allows us to determine where hot spots are.
