The hydrologic cycle: the water cycle is a closed system, that keeps recycling itself. The water cycle is a series of uxes and storage. Most of the water cycle takes place over the ocean. Transpiration- water sent back to the atmosphere through plants: global water storage. Sheet wash- how water moves on slopes, either enters stream directly or rst enters a standing body and later ows through an outlet into a stream. Dendritic- little tributaries leading to bigger and bigger tributaries. Radial- centrally elevated area and water ows away like spokes on a wheel: ex. Rectangular- water takes advantage of the joints within the rocks. Trellis- water can easily move laterally but it has trouble moving over ridges: drainage basin. Basins divided by a drainage divide that de nes which basin water will move into. Great divide- continental divide that runs along the rocky mountain, decides whether water will fall into the paci c or atlantic ocean: streams.
