Document Summary
Skeletal muscles are controlled by somatic nervous system. Motor commands (for voluntary movement) originate in the motor cortex. Like how for afferents there is input coming into specific areas of the brain, this motor cortex is specific for voluntary movement output. This area (motor cortex) is near the somatosensory system area. Ex: we have more motor neurons going out for face and hands more muscles controlling hand and face movements than elbow or back. More muscles to control = more space taken in the motor cortex (more motor neurons) A reflex is a subset of our overall reflex arc. We can understand how reflex happen and carry it over into how involuntary control happens. Skeletal muscles can only be stimulated (meaning they can only move in one direction) Because they are from somatic system (autonomic is the one that can do both stimulatory and inhibitory)
