Redcrosse and sansjoy battle, each figure bleeding into the other. Sansjoy sees sansfoy"s shield, becomes enraged, and fights back harder duessa calls out to sansjoy, which redcrosse misinterprets. Sansjoy ends up disappearing in a darksome cloude (i. v. 13. 6), at which point. Redcrosse and duessa travel back to the house of pryde together. As redcrosse"s wounds are tended, duessa travels into the realm of night, intending to save sansjoy. She and night have a moment of connection, reclaim sansjoy, and then head to hell to revive him. In the underworld they take sansjoy to aesculapius to be healed. While in the cave, there"s a sojourn into the narrative of hippolytus, after which the crew returns to the house of pryde. Redcrosse and the dwarfe have departed, despite redcrosse not being fully healed.
