(dr. chris oakley) popular legend tells that perseus founded mycenae, so called because when he was thirsty a mushroom sprang up, and somehow provided him with a stream of water. What really happened: on a picnic with andromeda & some of the nobles, he ate a mushroom because he was thirsty. It was poisonous, and he started hallucinating visions of a city around him. The nobles wanted to curry favor with the king, so they took all of it seriously and founded the city right where the picnic had been. (constantine j. alexopoulos) perseus accidentally killed his grandfather acrisius. When he returned to argos, he persuaded megapenthes (son of proetus) to change kingdoms with him. Once he had the kingdom of proetus he founded.
