PSYCH 2300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Multistage Sampling, Snowball Sampling, Quota Sampling
Document Summary
All members of the pop. have equal chance of being included. Sampling only those who volunteer to participate. Purposive sampling: recruiting and studying certain types of participants in a non- random manner. Snowball sampling: existing participants recommend other participants. Quota sampling: recruit a certain # of participants from each subset of pop. in a non- random manner. But, for frequency claims, the sample should be representative. For association or causal claims, not always important. 2. 4 million size sample said landon would win. 50,000 size sample said fdr would win. How you recruit your sample is more important. Cluster sampling: randomly select groups of participants rather than individual participants. Choose different subgroups of pop. and then randomly select a certain # of ppl from each subgroup. Oversampling: intentionally randomly select more participants from a particular group so that they are overrepresented.
