Had difficulty fitting in either white or black groups. His phenotype didn"t change but the definition of his phenotype changed. 1790- free white male, free white female, slaves are 3/5 of a person, other persons. Of the 48 million americans who reported being hispanic or latino in the 2010 census only about half chose one of the officially recognized racial categories. Something about this type of consensus is not working. Needs to decide what the consensus is actually measuring. This was an exclusionary practice because the white people were in power, rather than a hyperdescent.
