Childhood hl can be permanent or temporary depending on the cause and location of the problem within the peripheral or central auditory system. Temporary hl is more frequent in children often associated with transient infections of the middle ear. Conductive- sound is prevented from traveling through the ear canal and middle ear to cochlea, blocked canal due to wax, or physical abnormalities of outer and middle ear. Sensorineural- due to damage to cochlea or auditory pathways. We should be able to hear from 0-25 decibels.
