Mare will give certain signs to when she may be close to parturition. The better we recognize these signs the more births we can catch. While not all signs may be present, most mares will display certain characteristics before parturition: mammary gland development. Mammary glands develop 3-6 weeks before foaling. Start to descend with colostrum 2-3 days before parturition in most mares: waxing on teats.
