Document Summary

Nervous system 4 cont: medulla, posterior column-lateral medial lemniscus, to sensory cortex, stereognosis (also known as haptic perception) Child with autism who does not like the feeling of textures (clothes on their body: astereognosis. Tactile agnosia when only one hand is affected. E. g. , cannot identify a fork but can describe what it feels like explicitly. Sometimes can even re-draw the object but not identify. Pyramidal tract: also called corticospinal or voluntary motor tract/pathway, all motor impulses travel through, direct motor pathway from cortex to spinal cord and brain stem, voluntary movements. Musculature of speech mechanism: head, neck, and trunk represented by motor cortex in both hemispheres. Limbs represented contralaterally: motor impulses for both subsystems originate in cortex, corticospinal tract. Through pons, then on to form pyramids of medulla. Terminate at lower motor neurons or other lower neurons: corticobulbar tract. Follow similar path as above except terminate in cranial nerve nuclei and other brain stem nuclei.
