Violent neighborhoods typically have more violent people: exposure to firearm violence, children who are exposed to firearm violence doubles the chance that they will engage in gun violence, substance abuse is linked to violence. Individual users lead to higher rates of violence. If neighborhoods have more drug and alcohol usage you normally get high rates of crimes. Economic impulsive behavior: people being violent not from drinking something but so that they can get money to support their habits.
