Perception: the process of experiencing your world and then making sense out of what you. Chapter 3: notes experience; experienced through five senses. Interpersonal perception: process by which you decide what people are like and give meaning to their actions; includes making judgements about personality and drawing inferences from what you observe. Stage 1: selecting - number of sensations you can attend to at any given time is limited; need to select and focus on certain sensations. Stage 3: interpreting - how we interpret communication with others. Impressions - collections of perceptions about others that we maintain and use to interpret their behaviors. Impressions formation theory - form these impressions based on our perceptions of physical qualities, behavior, what people tell us, and what others tell us about them. Passive perception - occurs simply because our senses are operating; respond to surroundings; are perceiving others though you may not think about it.
