Goes to the university of paris to become a priest: decided to become a lawyer instead. When he goes to study law he will meet protestants for the first time. Took seven years to get law degree. Law is cracking down on protestants and john calvin and others flee to. Will publish the first edition of institutes of christian religion. Most influential book of theology: theology is based on predestination. Before time began god selected who would spend eternity in heaven and who would spend it in hell. Depravity of humans: no moral sense (no good works) Those who are among the elect get a free gift: can deny it at first but will eventually come to accept it. Will do good work out of gratitude.
