Theory: system of ideas intended to explain something. Psychoanalytic theory: human behavior is motivated by instincts and drivers (sex drive is the most important) Criticism not scientific, cannot be tested, based only on his parents. Behavioral theory: must observe and measure behavior to understand it. Aversion therapy: eliminate unwanted sexual behavior through the application of negative reinforcement. Both internal and external events influence behavior (internal events: feelings, thoughts, and beliefs) (external events: rewards and punishments) Issues with this theory: training your kid to act a certain way. Identify with same-sex parent and imitate his/her behavior. People differ in how they process information. The biggest sexual organ is the brain. Sexually aroused by what we believe sexually arouses us. We all strive to develop ourselves to the best of our abilities. We do things that make us feel good about ourselves (sexual and other behaviors) Choose a partner that can ensure healthy offspring.
