Different scientific discoveries lead to change in broadly held beliefs. Scientific method: ask a question or address a problem, research, hypothesis, experiment, analysis, conclusion. Different paradigms of science: positivism post-positivism, constructivism, & critical theory. Scientists have social locations like gender & social class that influence the process of investigation. Bias, political influence and conflicting interests can infect the scientific process, and the distribution of findings. Abstract and general ideas that are subject to rules of organization. Systematically expressing and organizing ideas to understand a particular occurrence. Examples: ecological model, family systems, piaget s theory of cognitive development. Disconnection between scientific evidence, regarding best assessment and treatment techniques, and routine practices. A bigger reliance on evidence-based practices could help close science practitioners gap.
