Visual media have a capability that the other media don"t have to enforce story forms and patterns on us. Raymond williams: the analysis of culture: identifies three definitions of culture . The ideal: the description of universal values philosophical investigation. (justice, fairness, etc. ) The documentary: the body of a culture"s intellectual and imaginative works criticism. The deliberate stories we tell to transfer culture, like fables and legends, or artwork. The social: description of a way of life, not just in art in learning but in institutions and day-to-day behaviour historical criticism. The process of creation is more important than the outcome. Old shows that we wouldn"t have watched if they were released now are valuable now because they have memories attached to them. Conflict and time: how accurately can cultures examine themselves, is it possible for a generation to analyse/critique its own existence within the context of its own culture, the general cultural pattern .
