Ser & estar w/ adjectives: w/ many adjectives, both verbs can be used, but the meaning will change. Statements w/ ser describe inherent (permanent) qualities: sally es elegante. Sally is an elegant person: juan es agradable. Juan is a nice person: juan est bueno hoy. Juan is nice today: sally est elegante hoy. Statements w/ estar describe temporary (changeable) qualities. Some adjectives tend to change in meaning depending on whether they are used w/ ser or estar. Receives the action of the verb directly. When a direct object pronoun is a person or a pet, it"s preceded by the word: called a (cid:498)personal a(cid:499), has no english equivalent. When direct object pronoun is not a person or pet, but a place, the personal a is not needed: janice busca a su perro, alex. Janice is looking for her dog, alex: yo escucho a mi amigo. I"m listening to my friend: t visitas el parque.
