Increased volume and/or water content of feces at increased frequency. Many causes: dietary indiscretion, internal parasites. Rest gi tract no food for 12-24 hours. Hydration free access to water if not vomiting. Bland food boiled hamburger or chicken and rice, cottage cheese. If no improvement see veterinarian and rice. Causes: hairballs, foreign bodies/ obstruction, behavior, diet, parasites, disease processes. General treatment: if eating too fast slow down, single/ acute case withhold food and water for 12 hours, continuing or chronic see veterinarian, major concern dehydration. Hairballs: excessive grooming, often pass through intestinal tract, can be regurgitated, diet changes high fiber, emulsifier, provide (cid:498)cat grass(cid:499, must differentiate from feline asthma! Signs vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, weight loss, flatulence, rumbling gut, straining to defecate, blood in stool. Age at which it occurs any age. Unknown cause- may be related to previous intestinal disorder/disease- injured lining of gi tract allows absorption of large protein molecules.
