Suspensory ligament of the ovary: ovarian artery and vein inside. Oogenesis: production of oocytes (mature female sex cells) Females are born with all primary oocytes at birth (2 million) but not all will fully mature. Oocytes are located within fluid filled bubbles: follicles. About 20 oocytes begin to mature each month but only 1 becomes fully mature. Ovulation: follicle ruptures and oocyte is released to body. After ovulation, remaining follicle cells form corpus luteum. Corpus albicans: scar tissue, remnant of degenerated corpus luteum. Ovarian cyst: fluid filled sac that develops within the ovary. Follicular cyst: occurs when a follicle fails to rupture but instead grows larger. Isthmus: connected to uterus, total transit: 3-4 days, fertilization at 1-2 days. Ectopic pregnancy: fertilized egg implants outside of uterus (usually in fallopian tubes)
