About 6% of boys & 13% of girls report having had: same-sex attractions, a non-heterosexual orientation, or engaging in same-sex activity during adolescence. Sexual orientation: extent to which an individual is oriented toward heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual activity. Sex-role behavior (expression): extent to which an individual behaves in traditionally masculine/feminine ways. Gender identity: which gender an individual believes he/she is male/female. Date rape: being forced to have sex by a date. Sexual harassment widespread in american public schools. Adolescents abused and neglected at higher rates than children: victims disproportionately female and poor. Many adolescents fail to use contraception regularly: although rates improved since 1970s, 40% of high school students didn"t use condom most recent time they had sex. Many adolescents report using the withdrawal or rhythm methods of contraception: 2 of the least effective ways to prevent pregnancy. Estimated to be 73 95% effective: requires knowledge and self-control.
