Child maltreatment and the law (law & order) Adoption and safe families act of 1997. In the case of a child who has been in foster care under the responsibility of the state for 15/22 more recent months: Terminate parental rights of the child"s parents. To a qualified family for an adoption: Identify: recruit, process, approve, particular type of parent that may not be able to take care of child. Things that are always illegal: examples: A criminal homicide constitutes: murder of the first degree. Crimes that by definition are committed against children. When committed by a intentional killing: child abuse, criminal neglect, child endangerment. Endangering welfare of children: offense defined, someone supervising the welfare of a child under 18 years of age. Other person: person that employs/supervises such a person: Commits an offense if he knowingly endangers the welfare of the child by violating duty of: Injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled.
