Party identification = an individual"s enduring or affective instrumental attachment to one of the political parties. Party label = a label carrying the party"s brand name. Pid is a heuristic that can be used reliably most people vote correctly . Strong enough reaction to particular candidate, issue, or relevant running counter to pid. People return to voting/ supporting their party. Assumes a linear calculation you support the candidate closest to your ideal positions. Issue voting = voting for candidates based on their positions on specific issues, as opposed to their party or personal characteristics. Single issue voting = people who base their votes on candidates" or parties positions on one particular issues of public policy. Retrospective voting = vote on the basis of past policy outcomes.
