Document Summary
Besides economic policy there are 2 other broad categories of public policy: domestic policy- focuses on concerns within the us, foreign policy- deals with us interactions with other countries. There are two types of domestic policy: regulatory policy- the federal gov. oversees the activities of individuals, businesses, and governmental institutions. Covers a wide range of activities and services from regulations on advertising and transportation of food drugs and public utilities. Focuses on restrictions of business, labor, the environment, and energy: regulating business. Free enterprise has always been the foundation of the american economic system, but in the 19th century protests about abuses of big businesses led to gov. intervention. Cutthroat competition and big companies were running small companies out of business. Theodore roosevelt passed 3 key restrictions on businesses to eliminate monopolies: the interstate commerce act- passed in 1887 to end certain unfair practices by the powerful railroad industry.
